You do not have to be unwell to see a psychologist

A clinical psychologist's work is closely tied to easing symptoms that come from disorders and syndromes. Even so, you can see a psychologist when there is no complaint related to mental illness at all.

Seeing a psychologist while you are well opens room to work on parts of your life that can improve through greater self-knowledge and the chance to reflect on your history and your ordinary days.

What sets this work apart

What a psychology professional offers differs from meditation, or from a conversation with friends, family or religious leaders. This is the professional trained to listen, bound by the rules of a professional council and a code of ethics. Among the differences:

  • listening and conducting the session on the basis of a scientific theory;
  • confidentiality guaranteed under the law;
  • no moral judgment;
  • neutrality regarding your moral, political and religious convictions.

A psychologist is someone who will be on your side — but rather than pushing you down a path or lecturing you, will help you see why you make the decisions you make, and which path is the best one for you, from your own point of view.

One more thing worth saying: therapy is enjoyable.
