Suicide and the COVID-19 pandemic
September is the month chosen to draw attention to one of the leading causes of death in the world: suicide. With the rise in demand for mental health care recorded by the Brazilian Psychiatric Association, there was concern that the changes forced by the COVID-19 pandemic would push attempts and deaths considerably higher.
For that reason, psychologist Patrick Pereira published a video on the importance of helping one another, and of staying alert to possible signs among the people around us. He also put together a YouTube playlist with tips for coping better with social isolation, and a reflective video on the effects on the labour market accelerated by the need to work from home.
